Man Hee Lee, today's peace leader

Man Hee Lee, today's peace leader

What is peace and why is everyone so desperate to have it?
Have you ever thought about having it?
Then, let's think about a country where there is no peace.
What picture popped up in your head?
Does it seems happy? Why not?
The picture that comes to my head is that people screaming and crying.
Not even one people looks happy.
Now, you will know why everyone and also you need and wants peace.

While searching about peace, I found out one man who also wants peace and work for it.
Like in the title, his name is Man Hee Lee.
He was born in Korea and at the time when he is young, he had to fight on the war to survive.
During the war, he saw many people dying and be harmed.
He definitely thought he should make peace and never make this happen again.
So, even there is no more war in Korea, he is now working for world peace.
Which means no war in the world.

He has tried to meet many countries representatives and asked them to gather in working for world peace.
In addition, he also hosted peace walk with thousands of youth around the world.
He is still working for peace to achieve world peace.
However, this is not a hope of him. This is what we should all work for.
Like Gandhi who has also worked for peace before, the movement wasn't only with himself.
There were people who had fight with him.

So, how about we, work for world peace with today's peace leader?

MANNAM: TaeGukGi: Brotherhood Of War (Heal the world)

All the Koreans know what day is 25th of June. Do you know what day is it? It is the day when Korean War started in 1950. Since the War became ceasefire, we can’t say it has ended until now. It has been over 60 years since the war started, but even now, there are many parts of sadness that still maintains. The elders know our sad history because they saw and heard it with their own eyes. The new generations doesn’t know much about history because it didn’t happen when they were alive. So it is a pity when the young speaks about the history, especially about Korean War, like that they don’t care. This is the reason why many historical movies come out.

TeaGukgi huinaleemow(Known as “Brotherhood of War”2003.) is a historical movie about the Korean War in 1950. Before the movie came out, the movie was a hot issue because two of the famous actors of Korea played the main character. 장동건(JangDongGun) and 원빈(Wonben) are the main characters who are brothers in the movie.

The director 강제규(Kangjeakuw) did an excellent job to show family love through the movie. Love was expressed touchingly by using the background of war.

The movie tells us about many things to consider. It makes people think about their family and make them think how precious it is to have them by our sides. The younger brother waits for his brother to come back from war. He waits because his brother promised him that he will come alive. But about after 50 years, they meet but it is as bone to flesh.

Many people loved this movie and cried because their hearts was touched and moved by the sorrowful story about two brothers. I have a question. What if the brothers didn’t have to go to the army? What if they were too old to be in an army? And what would have happened if the war didn’t happen in the first time at all? Well, then there wouldn’t have been a great movie like this, but it would have been more peaceful for all the people. If a war happens, it is the citizens who are sacrificed by the public. A few of the leader makes a lot of people die. So a war is a thing that must not happen again. No one is a winner in a war. But surprisingly, even now every place in the world has war.

Let us stop this. What can we do? I may be small compare to the world, but we can change the world by gathering all the power we got. This is the reason I am volunteering in MANNAM Volunteer association. Change the world and make it into a better place. To understand people who have different culture, language and appearance you have to have a chance to meet and be with them. That is why I like MANNAM. There are many opportunities to meet and make new friends. But the best part of being a member of MANNAM, is that I realize new fact and thinks that I never thought before. These things make me a better person and a better human being. Peace is possible and you can be the next hero who leads the play.

MANNAM: Why Do We Need Peace?

Have you ever watched a movie called 'TaeGukGi: Brotherhood Of War’? This renowned movie talks about the Korean Wars which occurred on June 25 1950, and lasted for three and half years. In the movie, two beloved brothers tore apart, and ended up fighting on the other side of wars. Decades and decades later, the younger brother finally found the remains of his brother, and cried out in front of the body.

What do you feel about this story of the Korean War? Do you think this story is something apart from reality? No, I don’t think the war is something that only exist in the screen. Near us, there are many people who went through the war and suffered from those memory and experiences of it. Also in Korea, it is not difficult to find people who lost their family during the Korean WAR. This is another reason we need ‘PEACE’

Before, I felt the war is not really related with me, so I didn’t feel strong about necessity of peace. We think we are living in the world apart from war, but that is not exactly true. I thought my life is apart from those wars or fighting, but MANNAM 54th commemoration of the Korean War event reminded me there are many people who went through the war.

This is why we need peace. The war and conflicts leave scars and suffers that can’t be easily erased. But through peace, we can make people become together. Within the peace, two loving brothers do not need to fight each others. Peace can bring the harmonized world which doesn’t have such a sad thing as war. And the peace can be achieved from the small step forward, with the mind of sharing sufferings and caring others, and with true volunteerism.
