[MANNAM heal the world] Conformity in Volunteering!

[MANNAM heal the world] Conformity in Volunteering!

Some people are waiting in front of the crosswalk for the traffic light. But suddenly one of the people looks around to see if there is a car coming, and as soon as he knows that there is no danger coming up, he crosses the street. Like this, two more crosses the road as the same way like the first. In this situation, what would you do? If you were in the same situation would you cross the street even though it is a red light? Well, some psychologists found that people have psychology to follow the others behavior. This is called conformity theory. What I wrote up is a bad example about people’s behavior. But what if this theory comes into a good situation?

A person’s thinking is very simple. If the others do it, they think “Why not me?” This is why people follow what others do. This is another example. If one man stares at an object far away, a stranger who passes by doesn’t care what he is doing. But if there are more than three people who are doing this, a stranger who watches this can’t just pass without stopping. The stranger does the same act with others.

Now let us think about this. There are things that we can do to save and make peace to the world. Because we do not have money like Warren Buffett, we can’t donate money like him. Then what can we do? We can volunteer with our hands and with our hearts. Although it doesn’t appear that much, but all the small efforts this does can make a big movement to the world. The Association which is doing a good job is MANNAM! Why don’t we volunteer or donate and make this into a big movement though MANNAM? If one starts, and more than three people does this, we can make and motivate others to follow this great movement in MANNAM. Remember that your action and behavior can influence others. Be careful! It can make other fall into a bad situation or in to a better way. Let us share and love others though MANNNAM Volunteer Association!

[MANNAM] We should help and love each other

The most important thing is that we should love each other.
We shouldn’t forget the fact that we should help others with words and love each other.

-무엇보다도 우리는 서로서로 사랑해야 한다.
서로 말로 도와주고, 서로 사랑해야 된다는 것을 잊어서는 안 된다.

We, MANNAM International Volunteer association members are here to make WORLD PEACE.
To achieve world peace, we should be one, so that we can gather our thoughts and power.
To gather our thoughts, we should share each other's light, the culture.
Not only sharing can make world peace, but we should try to understand each other and help each other.
All of this mind is came from the mind set of LOVE.
We should love each other so that we can achieve world peace together:)

[MANNAM] It's time to share our love to environments

[MANNAM] It's time to share our love to environments

Do you know what day is 5th of April?
It's a tree planting day! It is called '식목일' in Korean.
Long time ago in Korean history, Korea was dominated by other country.
As you know, trees are very good and important resources to human.
So, during those days, lots of trees were taken from Korea.
After the domination, Korea was lack of many trees on the mountain.
Therefore, government chose one day to plant trees. That is 5th of April.
It used to be a red day. So, on that day, on the news, you can see lots of families go nearest mountain and plant trees.
However, when you see a calendar, April 5th is not a red anymore.
It has changed since 2006. The main reason for this is that there are too many red days in Korea and also, there were many fires on this day.
Many people were sad because since the day changed to normal black day, they cannot take a day off.
However, the real sad thing is that the time for us to payback their love is gone.
When we think of trees, some can just think it is a resources needed in our life.
But actually, it is much more than that. Trees are the one who offers you fresh air and make us to live.
Not only the air, but also, we really rely on trees a lot.
Papers, tissues, books are made of trees, trees save us from disasters, they offers us air and etc.

However, have you ever thought paying them back?
We always received the love from them, but did we pay them back?
Did they offer us with expecting something? No.
But, as the one who are receiving the love from them, don't we have to pay them back?
It's not about having lots of money. Just thinking about them could be a pay back too.
So, how about start to save them from now on from us?
MANNAM International Volunteers try hard to save EARTH too.
We save the Bukhan mountain last year, which was about to die. (You can here this story more in MANNAM volunteer blog)
Not only that, volunteering for the environment is still happening in each branch of MANNAM and it will be keep on going.
As the one who is living on this Earth, why don't you spend your time sharing your love for environment? :)

[MANNAM] Volunteer For Nature: Picking Up Garbage Around Gyeongpo Reservoir

All human beings on the earth live on light, rain, and air in the sky. Without any one of them, nobody can live. We don’t know exactly from when, but the sky has been giving us all of them without any change. The unchanging love of nature is very similar to one of the MANNAM Principles, which is giving without expectation. To learn the great love the sky shows us, we MANNAM International volunteers went to pick up garbage around Gyeongpo Reservoir.

It was a winter day. There was snow still on the ground. We MANNAM International volunteers walked along the road with a plastic bag in one hand and a pair of tongs in the other hand. Whenever there was garbage, we picked it up. After about three hours, four plastic bags were filled with garbage.

At that very moment, there was a smile on every MANNAM International volunteer’s face. Our ears, hands, and feet were frozen, but the smiles melted our heart. We felt a sense of achievement, pride, and happiness. It was the best moment for everybody as a volunteer.

Our work might be small, but we did make Gyeongpo Reservoir a cleaner place. If there are more volunteers joining us next time, we can pick up more garbage and make our nature much cleaner.

Do You Know Members From Which Country Have The Greatest Peace And Love In MANNAM?

Hello, MANNAM friends! As every MANNAM Volunteer Association member knows, MANNAM has its international members from all over the world. Then, I will tell you a riddle, and please guess the name of a country. The riddle is “Members from which country have the greatest peace and love in MANNAM?”

I will give you some clues. The country is located in Asia. It has many famous mountains. Also, when people in that country greet each other, they say “Namaste”. Then, can you guess?

Yes, right. The answer is Nepal. You may wonder why only Nepali members of MANNAM have the greatest peace and love. Every time when international members of MANNAM go to kids’ center, nursing house, or animal shelter, we all try our best to help others., but why only Nepal? I will explain it now.

In fact, the answer is already in its name  “NEPAL”. “NEPAL” can be seen as below:
Never
Ending
Peace
And
Love

Now, you must understand why the answer to the riddle is “NEPAL”. If Nepal is the country of “never ending peace and love”, don’t the Nepali people have the greatest peace and love?

The riddle is just for fun, but we can get some inspiration from it. MANNAM is an association which has the mindset of true volunteerism. It serves our communities in love and through love. As its members, let us, not only Nepali members but all of us, be people of “never ending peace and love” and extend the same peace and love to others.

[MANNAM] The Power of Love

Steam can move a locomotive train, the wind can move a windmill,
but the most powerful thing in the world is love.
