[MANNAM] The Meaning Of Peace

What is peace? According to the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary & Thesaurus, peace is “freedom from war and violence, especially when people live and work together happily without disagreements”. [1]

Peace is “freedom form war and violence”. Then, how about the world we are living in? Is it peaceful? Many people think war is a past affair. However, when looking around the world, one can easily find that his or her thought is not actually correct . Even at this very moment in the 21st century, there are countries still at war or at risk of violence. Such as Syrian war, violence in Tunisia, and North Korea's planned nuclear test, there are constant conflicts everywhere all over the world.

Peace is “when people live and work together happily without disagreements”. If so, how is your work and home life? If it is too complicated for you to think about the two things at one time, let’s only talk about home life. According to an old Chinese saying, “harmony in the family is the basis for success in any undertaking (家和万事)”, let’s suppose you have peaceful life at the workplace if you have harmonious life at home. Then how is your family life? In reality, ‘peace’ and ‘modern family life’ seem never to appear in pairs. What match up with the latter more are child abuse, family violence, and divorce. In other word, the modern world is far from ‘peace’.

Many people including MANNAM are trying their best to achieve peace. Every MANNAM member believes, if everyone in the world has the same mind and heart, we can build world peace.
