[MANNAM Heal the world] Rise of the MANNAM Guardians!

One rainy day, after deciding instead of picking trash in a rainy day, MANNAM friends choose to watch movie in the MANNAM office. Because it was a decision that was made in a moment everyone wondered what to watch. So MANNAM friends decide to watch the movie that people wanted to see on movie night before. The movie was “Rise of the Guardians.” Have you heard or saw it before?

Like the title Guardians is a person who guards stuff or people. Can you guess which characters that comes out of this movie? Like some people think, yes. There is Santa Clause and the sand man. Who else? You can find the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny also. The four Guardians live eternally helping children by giving them hope and joy. They survive because the children believe them that they exist. This is the source for them to live. And that is helping others without them knowing. In the movie there is also a boogie man that tries to make the children’s world in fear. So another Guardian gets selected to help the Guardians that was before. This is Jack Frost.

To defeat the evil and make a happy ending is the most common ending for an animation movie. This has made enlightenment for the audience. We learned a lot of things from the movie. To make people, especially the ones that are not close to you, happy by helping them is a thing that is worth of. In the movie, these kinds of works are the Guardians job. They do this because they were selected to help others. Why don’t we think that we, who are in MANNAM Volunteer Association was selected one by one to help others? Although we have our things to do, like study, work and teaching for our jobs but we can achieve helping others by volunteering and that can happen if we have hearts to do this. What if people don’t realize the work we do? It doesn’t matter because something special has already happened in our hearts and minds.

When Jack wanders why he was selected as a Guardian, Santa asks, “What is your center?” The special mind and heart that we each was chosen. At the end of the movie Jack finds out that it is helping others. We should have the same mind and though as him. And also I want to ask, “What is your center?”

 There is much music about peace. The topic may sound difficult and heavy for others, but some of the artists make this kind of music as and exciting song. Elvis Costello is one of these artists. He made a song “Peace, Love and Understanding.” You can guess that this song is about peace and loving others. It was a surprise to see and hear this music for the first time, because the music was so exciting and interesting. As you can see in the video clip, the audience is so into this song. Speaking peace in a cheerful way is a way to make the people understand. And also the form “Music” can make people more understand about peace. Now, if you look at the lyrics, there is a man. He looks around him, and sees that the world is a mess. No more love, nor peace and understanding. So he is saying that the world needs a change and needs the three important sources back. In the song he says this world needs love, peace and understanding.

 So let’s change the world. Something is happening around the world. Do you know what is it? MANNAM Volunteer Association is making world peace into action. How? By loving, caring, understanding people from the need to the people around us. By this way world peace can come. This is the way we are changing the world. Many people think about peace and love. What can we do about this? We can make a difference with volunteering. This can be the key to peace. MANNAM is changing the world now. Many people want to change the world but don’t know the way how.   Do you remember the song for the poor which was written by Michael Jackson? It happen in the 1900's when Michael Jackson gathered all the famous singers at that time to help others. Although Michael Jackson is gone now so he is not with us, the song still remains. Like it happened before, the singers who are famous these days, got together this time, for Haiti. It was after 25years since this song was sang again.

What was different from the last song was, there were new and the original singers who sang together. Also, there are new parts, like rapping inside. And this time, the propose for the song was clear then last time. This means, the audience who watches the video clip can easily know that the song is for Haiti because there were Haiti video clips inside.

Sharing and loving each other can be an easy but difficult thing for human being. It has been, and still will be the task for us. But we know that it is possible and that we are responsible for it. No matter what kind of person you are, sharing and loving each other is important for love. If we help the people in need, same love and respect we will achieve even if it is in the future. MANNAM Volunteer Association is a place where we try and work for peace. Haiti was suffering because of the disasters that happened in that area. Not others but you and me can make the things different by doing donation or by helping them. With love and passion MANNAM is a place where the song of peace can come true. Even though we are not as famous as the singers who is in the video, but the effort for every donation will be remembered to those who get the help. So let us help and share in MANNAM. They will remind you and also we ourselves are the ones who can prove it. Let the peace song spread around the world to bring peace! It is starting in MANNAM!

 Hello dear MANNAM Friends! How's the place where you live? Is it safe there? Are you happy with your life? Is it your life joyful? Or are you in sadness or sorrow? Don’t you want to live in a world that is safe, and which is full of happiness? The place where birds sing and where the sound of nature is breathing. If the world becomes like thatm then we would call it “Beautiful World.” Connie Talbot made our hopeful desire for world peace into a song to represent our thoughts.

 A “peace song” is not a peace song, because there is the word “peace” inside. A peace song is a song that makes you happy and so it makes you want to share this feeling with others. “Beautiful Song” sang by Connie is a peace song for me. Where people can follow someone, to be happy, that can do a big job to the world. And in the end peace can come so soon. In MANNAM Volunteer Association, you can meet people who can lead you the way for peace. It doesn’t show much to the world, but still, it has power to control it. I can learn many things in MANNAM. From the people in MANNAM Volunteer Association, we have lots to learn about them. Different with the other Volunteer Associations, MANNAM have heart and passion for Volunteering. And MANNAM does a job once and for all. Beautiful world is started by MANNAM. It is in MANNAM.

 MANNAM came together again! This time it is especially for people in India and China. There were many disasters, like flood, earthquake in these countries recently. That is the reason MANNAM came together again. To send, school supplies to children in India, and shoes plus raincoats for people who need them in China. MANNAM International friends met in an elementary school to do this job. Since in MANNAM International, there are members from all around the world, the making donation was more special. The warm hearts that MANNAM members had made was more meaningful. Not only from one country, but from all the world was gathering their hearts and mind together. Even though we never met the people who need our help, MANNAM could do thing just by thinking of their appearance when they will see the gifts. Because since we are a one big family around the world, we were very glad to help our friends and families. As you can see from the video, some people can draw or paint beautifully, but the things that shown were not that important. The hearts from everyone on this day, made wonderful stuff even though there are some mistakes.

 The thing that I love MANNAM Volunteer Association is that they keep on trying to help others. And there are many events to participate and have a chance to help. Why do humans only think for themselves? Is that the way to be happy? Many people may think that this is natural, but what I think is different. Helping others is the way we can be happiest ever. Because it is not only for me, but for others as well! Become happy in MANNAM!

[MANNAM Heal the world] How to train your Dragon

 

 Do you believe in dragons? Dragon is an animal from people’s imagination so they are not for real. But we can see dragon’s in many movies or in books or in other places.

 In MANNAM Volunteer Association, we watch movie once in a month. MANNAM watches many genres with all kinds of movies. We watched Korea, China, Hollywood and all kind that are heard to be presented as a good movie. This time, MANNAM choose animation for a change. The title was “How to train your dragon.” Some saw the movie already, some did not even hear about its name. Not many people like the genre about comics or animations, but the movie we saw completely changed our minds. It was fun, made all of us warm hearted, and touching at the same time. It is a story about friendship with a dragon and a human friend.

Long ago up North on the Island of Berk, the young Viking, Hiccup, wants to join his town's fight against the dragons that continually raid their town. Hiccup ventures out into battle and downs a mysterious Night Fury dragon with his invention, but can't bring himself to kill it. Instead, Hiccup and the dragon, who he names Toothless, begin a friendship that would open up both their worlds as the observant boy learns that his people have misjudged the species. The Vikings think the dragon is a species that must be killed for human protection. So they try to kill the dragons and want to expose their individual powers. Hiccup, finds another way to live with the dragons. He realized that dragons are not a creature to kill. He finds that they can be a friend and can even help the humans for a better life. By Hiccups courage and hard working, the soft heart was send to Toothless, and they now become friends. They need each other to survive. This was the biggest reason that they became to learn and understand each other. Hiccup says “Dragons and human can be friends.” And Hiccup, acted about his words and made it true. After we watched the movie, everyone fall in love to Toothless and Hiccup. We learned many things too. We learned about love, friendship, and understanding others. How many times did you try to understand the people who are different with you? Didn’t you and I avoid them because they are different with me? If I was, I was same with Hiccup’s father and other Vikings. We need to have open minds about others like Hiccup! We need the open mind but what I think highly of Hiccup’s courage. Toothless was a dragon that no one knew before. Plus it is a monster! Go thing that he didn’t get hurt. If I was Hiccup don’t think that I can do it like him. Hiccup acted what he believed in his heart. What he felt that was right. And he was right. That brought peace to the whole world where he lived. This is what we need. If we think that peace and volunteer is necessary, we must do it to bring it to us.

World peace which we are going to make in MANNAM Volunteer Association maybe it can be a big task for us. But are you thinking the same thing like others? Like Hiccup’s father or the people at the village? Think like Hiccup. In MANNAM, we can do this. Because the small thinking that you do here, can be the key to world peace. Or even more! MANNAM can help you do it!

If there is a song, that all the people around the world can sing, that would be the song for peace. It is a magical song which can have the power to change the world. Who could make that song? Not with lyrics, not with musical notes. It is made by us. Our little act, like volunteer work, helping others and sharing love can make this song that we are wishing for. Can you Imagine how beautiful the word and melody in that song would make?

Let’s complete this song together in MANNAM. In MANNAM volunteer association we are the people who compose and write lyric lines of peace.

[MANNAM Heal the world]: A realistic vision for world peace (Jody Williams)

 

 There is a women leader who talks about world peace. Not only about peace, has she claimed about what we can do to make this happen. She is Jody Williams. There was a lecture about world peace from her. Not only the thoughts has she thought, she makes her opinion more realistic with the enlightenment she learns from the peace makers.

 Here are some examples that she mentioned when she spoke. Dalai Lama told her that to make peace and work for peace, you have to act. Praying and meditation can help, but that is not the key for peace. You have to act. Also Aung San Suu Kyi told about working. With no action there is no hope. You can’t expect hope if you do not act. Shirin Ebadi is also the women who worked for her country. She wanted to help the women to for peace. Known as the “tree women” Wangari Maathai also works for peace. But in a different, and creative way. For this, she declaimed to plant trees. To help the environment, the only way was to plant to trees together even though the person has a fault or different.

 Like what the people said in the video clip, peace is the thing that we can achieve if we act. But how little is the power if I do it by myself? We can do this if we can do it together. That will change the world and make world peace. Each of the people who can do as much as he can do, this is the key to change to world.

 MANNAM is a place, where people work together for peace. By helping and combine strength to achieve peace. To help us as make the world a better place, MANNAM is where you can make this happen! Let’s work for peace!

'To give a chance to peace', is a title of a song. John Lennon, before The Beatles broke up, released this song to the public in July 1969. This song proves John Lennon’s real worth as a pacifist. The album was collaborated with his wife who was one of the member of a band named ‘Plastic Ono Band’, and this song was also John’s first single album that was recorded. Doesn’t matter which or what ‘-ism’ people say, in the song it spreads a message to seek peace though out the world. So in that time, the youth of America called John as a representative anti-war campaigner.

 Still, peace is needed in this world. Even though this song has came up on the surface for a half century, the problem still remains. From this song, we can feel and sense that we need peace. Knowing its importance, is the answer to unify the world into one.

 Helping the world, MANNAM Volunteer association is doing their best to take act for peace. We can join the wave of peace in MANNAM. Give peace a chance in MANNAM. The people from the song came up, didn’t give the chance to peace. Now we can. Let’s join the peace movement together!

What the singer and the composer wanted to tell was about the beautiful world that they live in. Because these days there are war, conflict, hatred and dispute around the world, in people minds, the world that we live in is a fearful place. It is a world that we can’t believe others, has to fight for my greed, and a place with pollution. Well, yes that is true. But if you change your mind and thoughts in a positive way, the world around you will look, feel, smell different. Even though the reality is dark, why do you look at it in the same way like others? And if you search and look at the world closely, there are many things that make you happy. Discover the world by yourself. Don’t think in a negative way. Our live is too short just to be happy. Change your thoughts. Then we can live a live that is good for everyone.
This is why I think this song is a song for peace.
A song for a better world to spread the thoughts of peace. With the songs of peace, we can make a peace culture out of this. MANNAM is the place where I can rely and helps me think in a possitive way. By helping and making the world a better place then now, I think MANNAM is a bridge to peace. If I sing peace songs even for 100 years, that doesn't have the power to make peace. Acting after listening is important. Peace is possible when you act. Let us make it in MANNAM. Not just only by hearing, you can see and feel it with you own eyes!

To really understand other people’s life, you must be in the same shoes which they have. But to be in a same situation with others it is not a common thing that can happen to you. Everyone grew up in a different situation and in a different environment. Everyone lives a life that is individual. No one can live the life that I live. Because even though people use the same amount of time they have, unexpected things can always happen. Conclusion, we have to respect the life others have and have to try to understand.

If we don’t have a experience to lose a person that I loved, we don't know the sadness for the lost. We can guess the feelings but cannot feel the same. But what we realize about this fact is, even though we don't know the exact feeling to understand, we can make the problem less hard for others by helping them. Though we do not feel the same, but because we know the sorrow by heart.

Helping others can make myself also happy and can feel safe. It is because if I have a problem to solve, you know you can get help from your friends who you helped before. How to help others? It is not a big fuss to make. Sending thousands of dollars can help people but even with a heartful word can make others feel better. Why don't we start now? MANNAM can help you. We are the group who moves and acts to make things real. You can find love and joy by helping and joining MANNAM. We can't help everyone in the world(Not yet) But everyone can help someone. Do you think that your help is too small so no one will notice it? You know what? That is the start of a massive power to change the world. Let's change the world by our hands. Let's heal the world and bring peace. Peace in possible in MANNAM. And this will be true if you join and act for the future.

Why I select G.I. Joe: Retaliation

-On the famous Korean TV talk show, ‘Healing Camp,’ the Actor Mr. Lee, Byung-hun spoke about the Hollywood behind story.

He is a famous top actor. But in Hollywood, he was just normal person(just expert in martial art). So he confessed that it made him feel very small in the film studio and award ceremonies because nobody recognized him there. Just one person recognized him. He was a waiter in award ceremony. The waiter said, “I am your big fan! I watched all of your films.” He felt something what he have forgotten. When the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra(2009) came for promotion in Asia, situation was reversed. Fans of 95% of Byung-hun Lee came to meet. Sienna Miller asked Lee, “What happen?” Lee just said, ”Well.” It became an opportunity to appeal strong presence in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. So I wanted to check his presence paid with his nonperson experience.

-Dorothy: “I was sorry to see Channing Tatum shortly. It took a time to get over a shock of his death. My brother said that the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was dull but the G.I. Joe: Retaliation was exciting. He enjoyed it.”

-David: “Most thrilling scene was the cliff. I thought that director put so much into that scene. It was refreshing.”

-Terry: “Satirizing on nuclear clubs was funny. I hope that it’s not happened North Korea push the button of launcher as well as IRL.”  

OPINION

Overall, the scene was speedy and thrilling. It is feast for the eyes. As Terry words, I agreed with that opinion. Situation of Korea is getting serious. For that reason, many foreigners in Korea are getting scary. But as message of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation, we have to finish the war like nuclear weapon. It’s time to push the button of launcher a peace campaign not the launcher of missile.

 MANNAM volunteer is an association, aiming for world peace with no war and no weapons.

[MANNAM] A Huge change with just one flap [Butterfly Effect]

One Tuesday, when I was in University, we had a seminar class about movies. The topic was ‘The famous movies that has fame.’ I was of course very excited about this, because in this class I could watch the movies that I wanted to watch before, plus I can watch them all for free. The first movie was a good start. The title of the movie was “Butterfly effect”. I heard of this movie many times before but didn’t know what was so famous about it. ‘Wow, now I finally get to watch the movie that everyone said.’ That was my thought at first.

 What is a “Butterfly Effect?”

“Butterfly effect” is a science chaos theory which means, a small change at one place can make a large difference at another place. The name of the effect was coined by Edward Lorenz who found this theory by the weather. If a butterfly flaps its wings in Brazil, several weeks after it becomes a huge hurricane in America. So it means by doing small things, those thing can make a big different result.

 Like what the title says, in the movie, there are many parts that shows how important to act in some kind of situation. My little act can make a different result. The main character, Evan travels the time with his diary to change the present. He loves Kayleigh Miller, his friend from childhood. With one word, or one act changes the relationship with her. Evan tries hard to get close to her but every time there is a problem he doesn’t like. So he goes to the past to fix things. But thing doesn’t go well. For Evan himself and for Kayleigh, Evan chooses a life without her. By this way, no one gets hurt and can be at least happy.

 After I watched this movie, I had time for myself, and about my life. Starting from the time I was born until now, many things could have happened. Maybe I could have been richer then now, or maybe I could have been extremely poor. I even could have been a dead person. Past influence the future. And the important thing is you can decide what you do. I realized that my act and words can influence myself and of course the people who are surrounding me. I don’t want to live a regretful life. I want to be happy all the time and enjoy the life that I live. So for that, I choose to do volunteer in MANNAM. Think of it! If I can make the future super happy for the others, that can be a life which the others can say “A succeed life.”

 Don’t you want to do meaningful things in your life? That can change everyone plus me. You can do it. Just do it. That is the answer of everything. Let’s spare some time for others. With your butterfly wings, you can make a big love hurricane. It is possible here in MANNAM.
