[MANNAM] Without laugh (peace)

[MANNAM] Without laugh (peace)

A smile is a facial expression which is formed by moving the muscles near both ends of the mouth.
But we know that a smile is more than a movement of muscle.
Smile can bring hope to hopeless. Also, a smile can make someone's heart warmer than .
One of wonderful thing about smile is that, smile spreads out.
A smile can spread out to one who sees it, like a happy virus.
Not only that, like one of peacemaker, Mother Teresa said, smile can also brings the peace.

“Peace begins with a smile..”
-Mother  Teresa

Why don't we bring the peace with beautiful smile on our faces?
Smile might bring you some positive energy to your day, also peace on this world.

With a smile, the peace can begun.

[MANNAM] The special day for special ones.

[MANNAM] The special day for special ones.

Take a guess what do the dates below refer to!

It is second Sunday of August in Argentina.
On the other hand, it is first Sunday and 17th of March in New Zealand and Bangladesh.

It is also May 5 in South Korea, while it is officially recognized on the first Wednesday of October in Chile. In Guatemala and Singapore, both countries celebrated it on October 1.

Now can you guess what do these dates mean?
Yes! All of these dates are Children’s Day in each country!
The Children’s day is celebrated in more than 100 countries in the world.

I remember myself celebrating Children’s Day in the theme park with the gift that I personally chose. The Children’s Day has become more commercial as children want to receive some gifts in a way to celebrate their special day.

However, Children’s Day was originally declared by World Conference for the Well-being of Children in 1925. Twenty-nine years later, in 1954, it was universally recognized as the day to protect children working long hours in dangerous conditions and to allow all children to receive education.

Although we call the world as global village, the situation and circumstances are so much different depending on the regions.
Fortunately, some children are happily celebrating their day.
On the other side of the world, some children are being frighten of the war or they are working in unsafe environments to get long a day. What can we do for children who can’t even celebrate Children’s Day, although it is a special day for them? Then what can we do as adults who seem to have more ability to help them? Would delivering gifts and toys give them the hope for the better future?
Maybe yes, or maybe not.

They would be happy about the gifts from warm hearts, but why don’t we present them better future? Instead of hope for the better future, why don’t we make a better and peaceful future for everybody?

In that peaceful world, children wouldn’t need to be afraid of war.
In the world without the war, children would be more protected and be treated better by their parents and guardians.

Special toy can be good gift for your own son and daughters, or your nephews in Children’s Day.
On the other hand, inheriting the peaceful world and the hope for better, world would be the best gift that we can ever give to our children, which will be passing throughout generation to generation.
To make Children’s Day more special to all children in this global village, why don’t we take a step forward for peaceful and better world?
If you are hoping for the world peace, that is what MANNAM international volunteer association wants to. Let’s step forward for better world where many children can enjoy their day without worry of war or any other threats, so they can happily enjoy their Children’s Day.

[MANNAM] April Fool’s Day.

[MANNAM] April Fool’s Day.

Tomorrow is the first day of April
Then what pops in your mind? Yes, April Fool’s day!
It is internationally recognized as the day that people do practical jokes.
It was originated from France.
Before, the New Year day was March 25th according to current international solar calendar.
From March 25th to April 1st, French people celebrated the vernal equinox.
Especially on the first day of April, people used to exchange gifts to celebrate the New Year.
However there was change of the date of New Year in 1664.
The date of New Year was changed by Charles IX, French king of the time.
Charles IX chose another calendar to count the year, therefore January 1st become the New Year day.
Although April 1st is no longer count as New Year day, some people still think it as beginning of the New Year and celebrate New Year.
For those people who still don’t know the changes of calendar, people called them ‘fool’ instead of telling them truth.
This is origin of April Fool’s day.
But, this is not only what had happened in April 1st!

In 1919, the Associated Press reported that a prankster started a rumor alleging that Colonel House had announced that the peace treaty ending World War I had been signed:
"The report rapidly spread over all Paris and the telephone wires to the American headquarters in the hotel de Crillon became hot with inquiries as to the truth of the rumor.
It did not take long however, for inquiries to realize the character of the report when they were reminded that today was April 1st."
The Treaty of Versailles, which marked the formal end of the war, was signed on June 28, 1919

It was only a hoax, but doesn’t this happening show how much people longed for the peace and the cease of the war?
The rumor of the peace treaty ending World War I, spread widely over all Paris and across the Pacific to America, because people longing desire for peaceful world.
Moreover, this rumor was actualized through three months later on the same year of this hoax was happened. On the same year 1919, Treaty of Versailles was singed which marked the cease of World War 2.

Isn’t it amazing that word of ceasing war spread around the world and actually became true?
For tomorrow, instead of making naughty hoax, why don’t we send hopeful message of future to the other MANNAM friends?
Perhaps, your good and wishful word would spread around people to hope world, as the news of ceasing war became true!

[MANNAM] For Year 2113: 100 Years Later.

[MANNAM] For year 2113: 100 years later.

People who lived in the time of industrial revolution probably would not able to think that government will regulate the factory due to pollution.
Perhaps, we don’t have to think about the distant time like 19 century.
10 years ago, I could not imagine myself walking on the street, with holding the giant and fancy electrical device which is smart-phone.
100 years ago, people imagined about the life of year 2000.
Below is the ‘Postcards Show the Year 2000 (circa 1900)’

The Moving Pavement

Police X-Ray Surveillance Machine

Televised Outside Broadcasting
                                          Resouce @ Paleo-Future

Isn’t it amazing what people of 19 century imagined about today, and it is somehow correct?
'Televised Outside Broadcasting' is same as television and radio of today.
'The Moving Pavement'is same as moving staircase.
'Police X-Ray Surveillance Machine' is similar to CCTV and X-ray of these days.

People of 19 century imagined the life of people 100 years later, and then what would be lifestyle of 100 years later from now?

100 years later, there would be no such thing as ‘war’ between countries and also in domestic.
In 2113, there would be no words as ‘racism hunger or war. Since there is no such thing like racism, hunger or war, there’s no use to speak these words.
I dream about such amazing world in 100 years later.
It is all possible since there are MANNAM who dream and actualized the more beautiful world.
There are numerous wonderful people who dream and work for better and more peaceful world.

LETTER TO MANNAM FRIENDS: IF THE WORLD WERE A VILLAGE OF 100 PEOPLE

To. MANNAM friends,

Hello, my friends,
Hope you had nice day.
Today, I have two stories to tell you.
Hope you like these two stories.

IF THE WORLD WERE A VILLAGE OF 100 PEOPLE
In the world today, more than 6 billion people live.
If this world were shrunk to the size of a village of 100 people, what would it look like?

59 would be Asian
14 would be American (North, Central and South)
14 would be African
12 would be European
1 would be from the South Pacific

50 would be women, 50 would be men
30 would be children, 70 would be adults.
70 would be nonwhite, 30 would be white
90 would be heterosexual, 10 would be homosexual

33 would be Christians, 21 would be Moslems, 15 would be Hindus, 6 would be Buddhists, 5 would be Animists, 6 would believe in other religions, 14 would be without any religion or atheist.

15 would speak Chinese, Mandarin, 7 English , 6 Hindi, 6 Spanish, 5 Russian, 4 Arabic, 3 Bengali
3 Portuguese.
The other would speak Indonesian, Japanese,German, French, or some other language.

In such a village with so many sorts of folks, it would be very important to learn to understand people different from yourself and to accept others as they are. Of the 100 people in this village:

20 are underonurished.
1 is dying of starvation, while 15 are overweight.
Of the wealth in this village, 6 people own 59% (all of them from the United States), 74 people own 39%, and 20 people share the remaining 2%.
Of the energy of this village, 20 people consume 80%, and 80 people share the remaining 20%.
20 have no clean, safe water to drink. 56 have access to sanitation
15 adults are illiterate.
1 has an university degree.
7 have computers.

In one year, 1 person in the village will die, but in the same year, 2 babies will be born
So that at the year's end the number of villagers will be 101.

If you do not live in fear of death by bombardment, armed attack, landmines, or of rape or kidnapping by armed groups, then you are more fortunate than 20, who do.

If you can speak and act according to your faith and your conscience without harassment, imprisonment, torture or death, then you are more fortunate than 48, who can not.

If you have money in the bank, money in your wallet and spare change somewhere around the house, then you are among the richest 8.

If you can read this message, that means you are one of the 7 lucky people who have computer.
.
.
.

You probably had heard this story of ' If the world were a village of 100 people'
But do you know that there are another story of 'If the world were a village of 100 people'?

If you are one of the 20 people who can drink clean water, then you are lucky one who can share your clean water to other 80 people.

You are 85 who can read this message, you are able to help and give light to other 15 illiterate adults!
If you are one of 1 has an university degree, then you can use your major to help people in need.

If you are one of 80 who do not live in fear of death by bombardment, armed attack, landmines, or of rape or kidnapping by armed groups, then you are more fortunate enough to help other 20 who do are not.

If you can speak and act according to your faith and your conscience without harassment, imprisonment, torture or death, then you are one of lucky 52 who can spread the idea of peace to the world!

If you are reading this through computer, then you are one 7 people who can use your computer to share this message and inspire others.

When we read ' If the world were a village of 100 people ', we realize how fortune we are.
On the other hands, it means we are one of the lucky who can give our hands to people in need.
Some people might think they don't enough time or resource to help the others, but doesn't it look like we are one of the fortune people who have ability to help the others?
We can help people in need!
How amazing is that?

All of MANNAM friends, hope we can be one of the fortune one who can bring peace to this world, and help others in our daily life.
Hope  enjoyed two stories and hope you wonderful, and wonderful day!!
