Yes, I am talking about Nelson Mandela, who was the President in South Africa and dismantled apartheid's legacy.[1] Nelson Mandela was a civil right leader who fought against apartheid, a rigid policy of segregation of the nonwhite population. Not to mention that he awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993, he also concentrates on fighting against poverty and HIV/AIDS.[2] However, I am not writing this to enlist his contributions for the world and peace. I want to talk about his mindset of devotion.
Nelson Mandela said “I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”
July 18th is Nelson Mandela day. On that day, people encourage each other to spend 67 minutes to help the others. The 67 minutes symbolizes the sixty-seven years that Mandela spent serving his nation and the peaceful world.
Here is the man who devoted his life to help the others. As a man who lives in the same world as Mandela does, why don't we spare little amount of our time to help the others?
